Nearby ("we", "us", or "our") is a solo project operated at near-home.vercel.app. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights as a user.

1. What We Collect

We collect the minimum data needed to operate the service:

• Account information — your email address and a hashed password, if you create an account.
• Saved searches and templates — the search configurations you choose to save, including travel mode, landmark categories, custom landmarks, and optionally an address.
• Address inputs — addresses you enter are sent to Google Maps for geocoding and place search. We do not store addresses beyond what you explicitly save.
• Usage data — anonymized events such as searches run, features used, and session recordings, collected via Posthog.

2. How We Use Your Data

• To provide the core functionality of the app — geocoding addresses, finding nearby places, and calculating travel times.
• To save and restore your searches and templates when you're signed in.
• To understand how the app is being used so we can improve it.

We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising.

3. Third-Party Services

Nearby relies on the following third-party services, each with their own privacy practices:

• Google Maps Platform — used for address geocoding, place search, and directions. Google Privacy Policy.
• Supabase — used for account authentication and storing saved searches. Data is stored in the US. Supabase Privacy Policy.
• Google Sign-In — if you choose "Continue with Google," Google shares your name and email with NearHome so we can create your account. Google Privacy Policy.
• Posthog — used for product analytics and session recordings. Data is stored in the EU. Posthog Privacy Policy.

4. Cookies and Local Storage

Posthog uses cookies and browser local storage to maintain anonymous session continuity and associate events with a single user session. No advertising cookies are used.

5. Data Retention

• Account data is retained until you delete your account.
• Saved searches and templates are retained until you delete them.
• Analytics data is retained per Posthog's standard retention policy (1 year).

6. Your Rights

Regardless of where you are located, you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Request correction of inaccurate data.
• Request deletion of your account and associated data.
• Object to or restrict certain processing.

7. Children's Privacy

Nearby is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
