Atlanta's walkable pockets cluster along the BeltLine, in Midtown, Inman Park, Old Fourth Ward, Virginia-Highland, and Decatur. MARTA covers a north-south and east-west spine, but most of the metro remains car-oriented.
Midtown, Inman Park, Old Fourth Ward, Virginia-Highland, Decatur, and Buckhead Village are among the most walkable. The BeltLine has dramatically improved walkability along its route.
MARTA heavy rail has two lines: red/gold running north-south, and blue/green running east-west. It connects the airport, downtown, Midtown, Buckhead, and parts of the suburbs. Bus coverage is broader but less reliable. Most metro Atlantans still drive primarily.
Midtown itself, Old Fourth Ward, Inman Park, Cabbagetown, Reynoldstown, or anywhere along the BeltLine puts you within a 15-minute walk, bike, or MARTA ride.
